Job Title: Mainframe IMS System Programmer Location: Remote Duration: [Contract Length] Rate: $60/hr (W2 only) Experience: Minimum 10+ years required

Job Summary

The Mainframe IMS (Information Management System) System Programmer is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of IMS subsystems on IBM z/OS environments. This role ensures that IMS databases and transaction managers operate efficiently, securely, and with high availability to support business-critical applications. The candidate must bring 10+ years of proven hands-on experience in IMS System Programming.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and upgrade IMS subsystems (IMS DB & IMS TM).

Apply PTFs, APARs, and service packs using SMP/E.

Provide technical support for IMS system software, utilities, and tools.

Troubleshoot subsystem failures, abends, and performance issues.

Manage IMS definitions (MODBLKS, PSBs, DBDs, exits).

Tune IMS performance (buffer pools, logs, region parameters).

Collaborate with IMS DBAs and application teams to resolve issues.

Support IMS DB (Full Function & Fast Path) for high availability.

Implement security via RACF/ACF2/TSS and ensure SOX/ITcompliance.

Participate in Disaster Recovery planning/testing.

Support IMS software migrations and ITIL-based change management.

Provide 24x7 on-call support for IMS-related issues.

Required Skills & Qualifications

10+ years of experience in IMS System Programming on z/OS (IMS DB & IMS TM).

Strong hands-on expertise with SMP/E installations & maintenance.

Proficiency in IMS system definitions (PSBs, DBDs, MODBLKS, exits).

Experience in IMS performance tuning, buffer management, and logging.

Strong knowledge of IMS utilities (DFSMU, Database Recovery, DB Reorg).

Excellent skills in JCL, REXX, and automation tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with IMS Data Sharing & Parallel Sysplex.

Knowledge of IMS integration with DB2, CICS, MQ.

Familiarity with monitoring tools (OMEGAMON for IMS, Mainview, etc.).

ITIL certification or strong working knowledge of ITIL processes.

Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOX, PCI-DSS, GDPR, etc.).
