About the Role

Our client, a prominent public health organization focused on improving health equity in the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area, is seeking a passionate and driven Community Outreach Specialist. This role is critical in connecting underserved communities with vital health services, resources, and education. The Community Outreach Specialist will be responsible for building trust, fostering relationships with community leaders, organizing health awareness events, and facilitating access to care. Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategic outreach plans to engage diverse communities within Detroit, Michigan . Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, faith-based organizations, and local stakeholders. Organize and facilitate health education workshops, screening events, and information sessions in accessible community settings. Connect community members with healthcare providers, social services, and other essential resources. Distribute educational materials and information on health topics, preventive care, and available services. Gather feedback from community members regarding their health needs and barriers to care. Collaborate with internal teams to develop culturally appropriate outreach materials and strategies. Track outreach activities, document community interactions, and report on key performance indicators. Advocate for community needs within the organization and assist in identifying systemic barriers to health equity. Stay informed about current public health issues and best practices in community engagement.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Sociology, Community Development, or a related field. Minimum of 2 years of experience in community outreach, engagement, or health education, preferably within an urban setting. Proven ability to build rapport and trust with diverse populations. Strong understanding of health disparities and social determinants of health. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Experience in planning and executing community events. Familiarity with the Detroit community and its unique needs is highly advantageous. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRM or database systems is a plus. Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
