Role Overview: Cross-Team Accounting and Data Engineering Specialist

In this role, you will serve as a go-to authority at the intersection of accounting and data engineering. You will be at the forefront of cross-team collaboration, partnering closely with revenue accountants, data engineers, product managers, and financial analysts to design, build, and refine the systems that power our revenue recognition engine. What You Will Do at arenaflex: Key Responsibilities

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Strategic Initiatives

  • Work cross-functionally with Technical Accounting, Operational Accounting, Engineering, Product, Finance, Tax, Legal, and various business owners on policies, processes, and programs.
  • Drive key system initiatives and continuous improvements that elevate the efficiency and accuracy of revenue operations across the entire organization.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for accounting partners in both data and engineering domains, fostering a culture of collaboration and shared accountability.

Data-Driven Accounting Design and Automation

  • Develop and design comprehensive accounting data requirements to facilitate seamless automation of journal entries.
  • Ensure the highest standards of accuracy, completeness, compliance, and efficiency in all financial processes.
  • Partner closely with data engineering teams to translate complex business logic into scalable, automated solutions.

Operational Excellence and Process Improvement

  • Lead operational improvement initiatives designed to streamline revenue tasks and shorten the revenue close cycle.
  • Monitor and uphold data quality standards for journal entries generated via the Revenue Subledger.
  • Design and implement Data Quality checks for identified use cases through accounting requirements design, ad hoc investigations, and new product launches.

Revenue Reconciliation and Product Review

  • Collaborate continuously with Product and Engineering teams to refine and enhance the daily Revenue Reconciliation process.
  • Manage reconciliation analysis in partnership with the analytics team.
  • Review new product designs presented during internal Financial Compliance Reviews and assess their impact on existing or the need for new accounting requirements within the Revenue Subledger.

Month-End Close and Financial Reporting

  • Perform monthly revenue accounting close responsibilities, including but not limited to: GAAP revenue analysis, cost of revenue analysis, accounts receivable reconciliations, journal entry review, and audit close package preparation.
  • Execute ad hoc analyses and special projects as assigned by leadership to support strategic decision-making.

What Makes You a Great Fit: Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in revenue accounting, data analysis, and/or business intelligence.
  • Technical Accounting Knowledge: Strong, working knowledge of US GAAP with specific expertise in ASC 606 Revenue Recognition. Familiarity with IFRS is considered a significant plus.
  • SQL Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced SQL skills with demonstrated ability to query, manipulate, and analyze large volumes of transactional data.
  • Python Skills: Working knowledge of Python is highly desirable and considered a strong plus.
  • Analytical Acumen: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the proven ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and environments.
  • Communication: Outstanding ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of management and across cross-functional teams, both in-person and remotely.

Preferred Competencies

  • Experience working with cloud-based data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, Looker, or Power BI.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced technology, SaaS, or e-commerce environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading process automation initiatives from ideation through execution.
