Are you a passionate data science leader who thrives on turning complex datasets into strategic business assets? Do you have a knack for mentoring high-performing teams while driving innovation in analytics? arenaflex is searching for a dynamic, results-oriented Manager of Data Science to join our fully remote workforce. This is more than just a job — it is an opportunity to influence the strategic direction of a forward-thinking organization that values intellectual curiosity, operational excellence, and the power of data to transform business outcomes.

At arenaflex, we believe that exceptional talent can come from anywhere. As a remote-first employer, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and innovative workforce that collaborates seamlessly across geographies. Our data science team plays a pivotal role in shaping business strategy, optimizing customer experiences, and uncovering hidden opportunities within the vast landscape of structured and unstructured data. If you are ready to lead, innovate, and make a measurable impact, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

As the Manager of Data Science at arenaflex, you will spearhead the design, development, and execution of advanced analytical strategies, processes, and frameworks. You will oversee a team of talented data professionals, manage day-to-day operational activities, and serve as a subject matter expert for complex analytical initiatives. Your leadership will ensure that resources are allocated efficiently, strategic plans are executed flawlessly, and the organization consistently meets its business objectives.

This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and interpersonal leadership. You will be entrusted with guiding cross-functional teams, partnering with stakeholders across the enterprise, and delivering insights that influence key business decisions — all while working remotely from the comfort of your home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Execution: Manage the day-to-day operational activities that design, develop, and execute strategic plans for assigned areas of responsibility. Lead and oversee project teams, ensuring that initiatives are completed on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Advanced Analytics & Framework Development: Plan, design, and implement methodologies, processes, and frameworks to consolidate and analyze diverse data sets — including both structured and unstructured data — to extract meaningful business insights.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a topic expert and act as a point of escalation for highly complex issues. Become actively involved in resolving intricate analytical challenges and meeting tight project timelines.
  • Proactive Issue Management: Anticipate challenges, manage risks proactively, and ensure timely resolution of issues. Identify and execute remediation opportunities that strengthen analytical outputs and business outcomes.
  • Programming & Tool Development: Develop programming scripts, algorithms, dashboards, data tools, and queries to clean, model, integrate, and evaluate datasets. Build scalable solutions that support ongoing analytical needs.
  • Continuous Innovation: Stay current with emerging scientific methods, technologies, and industry trends. Introduce innovative approaches to the leadership team and champion their adoption across the organization.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with functional units across the business to drive solutions and provide data-driven direction. Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Establish credibility with partners, manage expectations effectively, and ensure regular, consistent, and impactful communication with team members and stakeholders. Use both formal and informal communication channels to define expectations and align on project boundaries.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage budgets for functional areas. Ensure financial plans are executed in alignment with business objectives and goals.
  • Industry Best Practices: Maintain awareness of industry-leading practices and bring them to the attention of leadership for innovative application. Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders to address business challenges.
  • Talent Development & Team Building: Allocate resources effectively to meet operational targets. Mentor and develop staff through onboarding, open communication, training, and development opportunities. Conduct performance management processes, build and maintain team morale, and foster a diverse and inclusive working environment.

Essential Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, computational, or technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with analytical and statistical programming tools such as SQL, R, Python, Excel, Hadoop, SAS, SPSS, or similar platforms used for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Deep SQL Knowledge: Advanced expertise in SQL for querying, manipulating, and managing large datasets.
  • Open Source Expertise: In-depth knowledge of open-source data science and statistical packages, including Python, R, Spark, and related tools.
  • Relationship Building: Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining key relationships with internal stakeholders (peers, colleagues, leadership) and external partners (business community, clients, vendors) within a matrix organization to develop strategies that meet departmental goals within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Business Decision-Making Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions within a workplace environment.
  • Leadership Experience: At least 2 years of direct management, indirect leadership, and/or cross-functional team leadership experience.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes, both within and outside the state.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Education: Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative, computational, or technical discipline.
  • Executive Communication: Proven experience communicating complex analytical concepts and strategic recommendations to executive-level audiences.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-wide initiatives.
