Senior Data Scientist, Crypto

About the position Wealthsimple is Canada’s leading financial innovator, offering a full suite of financial products. The Crypto team plays a crucial role in shaping high-priority product and business decisions, including onboarding, trading, engagement, retention, and new product development. As part of the Data Science & Engineering (DSE) organization, this role collaborates closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Operations. The team utilizes experimentation, analytics, and product thinking to build accessible, intuitive, and trustworthy crypto products for millions of clients. The company is seeking a Senior Product Data Scientist to influence the future of Wealthsimple's crypto experience through strong product thinking, analytical rigor, and cross-functional partnership. This role is designed to enhance the team's understanding of customer behavior, measure impact, and prioritize key problems. The position involves proactively surfacing insights, identifying opportunities, and providing clarity on complex product questions, with a primary output of high-quality business decisions rather than data/ML engineering.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and Operations to inform and shape product strategy, prioritization, and decision-making
• Develop metrics, data models, and analytical frameworks that improve how teams understand customer behaviour and business performance
• Identify opportunities to improve customer experience, growth, retention, and operational efficiency through data
• Translate complex business questions into clear recommendations and actionable insights
• Proactively surface trends, risks, and opportunities that help the team focus on the highest-impact work
• Collaborate with Analytics Engineering to improve the quality, scalability, and usability of data foundations for the team

Requirements

• 5+ years experience working in data science, product analytics, experimentation, or a related field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using SQL and Python
• Ability to influence product or business decisions through data and clear communication
• Strong product thinking and the ability to connect customer behaviour to business outcomes
• Comfort working cross-functionally and building strong relationships across disciplines
• Familiarity with experimentation and causal inference methods

Nice-to-haves

• Exposure to DBT or modern data modelling tooling
• Knowledge of fintech, investing, or crypto products
• Experience using AI tools to improve analysis, communication, or decision-making workflows
