As a Virtual Gifted Special Education Teacher, you will have the opportunity to work with a middle school caseload of students who are identified as both gifted and requiring special education services. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver virtual instruction to a diverse caseload of middle school students identified as gifted with special education needs, utilizing a range of teaching strategies and technologies to engage and support students.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student, ensuring that goals and accommodations are being met and that students are making progress towards their academic and personal goals.
  • Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of students, providing a balance of challenge and support to ensure that all students are able to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and related service providers to ensure a coordinated approach to instruction and support, and to provide a comprehensive and inclusive learning experience for our students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to families, school administration, and other stakeholders, using a range of assessment tools and strategies to inform instruction and support student learning.
  • Utilize virtual learning platforms and technology to create a dynamic and engaging educational environment, and to provide students with access to a range of learning resources and tools.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance, IEP progress, and communication with families, using our virtual toolkit and other digital platforms to streamline record-keeping and communication.
  • Support the social-emotional development of students, fostering a growth mindset and self-advocacy skills, and providing students with the skills and strategies they need to succeed in school and beyond.
  • Attend virtual staff meetings, professional development sessions, and IEP meetings as required, and participate in ongoing professional learning and development to stay up-to-date with best practices in special education and virtual teaching.

Essential Qualifications

  • A current, valid New Mexico Special Education Teaching License, with a Gifted Endorsement or Gifted Certification.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field, with a strong understanding of best practices in special education, including differentiation, accommodations, and behavior management.
  • Prior experience teaching middle school students with both gifted and special education needs, with a proven track record of success in supporting the learning and development of students with diverse needs.
  • Proficient in virtual teaching tools and platforms, including Zoom, Google Classroom, and other digital learning environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues in a virtual environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative virtual team.
  • Patient, creative, and committed to the success of each student, with a passion for teaching and learning and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with virtual learning platforms and technology, including online whiteboards, video conferencing tools, and learning management systems.
  • Knowledge of best practices in special education, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Response to Interventio
