Senior Tooling & Pipeline Engineer – Game Development Workflow Specialist (Entry-Level Friendly, Panama)

Remote · USA Full-time New today

About arenaflex

arenaflex is a forward-thinking creative technology studio that thrives at the intersection of artistry, engineering, and innovation. While our roots are in the gaming and interactive entertainment industry, our reach has grown to encompass digital media, simulation, and emerging immersive experiences. We believe that great games and great products are not built by lone heroes, but by empowered teams supported by intelligent, reliable, and beautifully crafted tools.

We are expanding our Panama-based operations and are on the lookout for a curious, motivated, and empathetic engineer who wants to start (or grow) a career in game development tooling. This role is designed to be accessible to entry-level candidates with a strong foundation in programming, a passion for problem-solving, and a genuine desire to help other creators do their best work. If you have ever built a small utility to automate a tedious task, written a script to help a friend, or spent your weekend tinkering with an engine just to see how it works, you will feel right at home at arenaflex.

The Opportunity

We are hiring a Senior Tooling & Pipeline Engineer – Game Development Workflow Specialist to join our collaborative production team in Panama. In this role, you will work hand-in-hand with our artists, designers, and engineers to understand how teams work today, identify friction points, and design solutions that multiply the impact of every individual on the team. You will help us build, extend, and maintain the engines, libraries, and custom tools that power our daily production.

This is not a typical "data entry" position. Despite the job title that initially appears in some listings, this is a genuine engineering role focused on tooling, pipeline development, and creative empowerment. If you are looking to break into the games industry and want a role where your work directly influences the quality of shipped products, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify Workflow Inefficiencies: Proactively observe and analyze the development pipeline across art, design, and engineering disciplines. Document pain points, bottlenecks, and recurring frustrations that slow the team down.
  • Design and Prototype Solutions: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to brainstorm candidate tools and process improvements. Weigh trade-offs in terms of scope, schedule, complexity, and long-term maintainability.
  • Implement and Ship Tools: Build, polish, and deploy internal utilities, asset pipelines, and editor extensions that integrate with industry-standard game engines and frameworks.
  • Maintain and Extend Existing Systems: Take ownership of arenaflex's growing suite of engine-specific and custom-built tools. Diagnose issues, refactor legacy code, and add features requested by the production team.
  • Build Custom Asset Pipelines: Develop robust pipelines that move art, audio, and data assets seamlessly from creation to integration, ensuring consistency and quality at every step.
  • Grow Proprietary Libraries: Contribute to arenaflex's internal technology stack by writing reusable modules, plugins, and helper libraries that can be shared across multiple projects and engine versions.
  • Champion Adoption: Help onboard teammates to new tools by writing clear documentation, recording short tutorial videos, and providing hands-on support during the transition period.
  • Measure Impact: Track how new tools affect productivity, error rates, and team satisfaction, and iterate based on real-world feedback.

Essential Qualifications

  • A Genuine Passion for Empowering Others: You find deep satisfaction in seeing teammates succeed because of something you built. Tools exist to serve creators, not the other way around.
  • Understanding of the Full Tool Lifecycle: You are comfortable moving from problem discovery, to solution design, to implementation, to evaluation, and back again.
  • Experience Building Standalone Utilities: You have built, shipped, or even prototyped at least one tool used by other people, whether that is a command-line script, a desktop application, or an editor plugin.
  • Cross-Discipline Tooling Mindset: You can think beyond your own specialty and design tools that serve artists, designers, animators, QA, and engineers alike.
  • Programming Proficiency in C#, C++, and Python: You are fluent in at least two of these languages and willing to learn the third. Modern game tooling typically blends all three.
  • Self-Directed Work Style: You can take a loosely defined problem, scope it, propose a plan, and execute on it with minimal supervision, while still communicating clearly along the way.
  • Strong Communication Skills: You can explain technical concepts to non-programmers and translate user feedback into engineering requirements.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with custom or proprietary game engines.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Unreal Engine or Unity, including editor scripting, plugin development, or Blueprint/visual scripting workflows.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, REST APIs), which are often used for lightweight internal dashboards and asset management portals.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git or Perforce, and a strong understanding of branching and merging strategies in a team setting.
  • Exposure to continuous integration, automated testing, or build automation pipelines.

Skills and Competencies for Success

  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to break down a fuzzy problem into a clear set of requirements and an actionable plan.
  • Empathy: A deep curiosity about how other people work, and a patient, supportive approach when introducing new tools.
  • Pragmatism: Knowing when a quick-and-dirty script is enough and when a robust, long-term solution is warranted.
  • Craftsmanship: Pride in writing clean, well-documented, maintainable code that other engineers will thank you for.
  • Adaptability: Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities can shift as projects evolve.
  • Curiosity: A continuous learner who explores new engine features, plugins, and industry tools just for the joy of discovery.

Career Growth and Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, we do not believe in dead-end roles. From day one, you will be paired with a senior mentor who will guide you through our codebase, our engine ecosystem, and our development philosophy. You will attend internal "tool jams" where teams showcase recent innovations, and you will have a dedicated learning budget to attend conferences, complete online courses, or pursue certifications relevant to your growth path. Many of our current senior engineers started in junior or entry-level tooling positions, and we are proud of the career trajectories they have built within the company.

As you grow, you will have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as engine architecture, build engineering, technical art, or production management. We actively promote from within and support internal mobility across disciplines and project teams.

Work Environment and Company Culture

Our Panama office is a hybrid-friendly workspace that blends the energy of in-person collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. We maintain a small, close-knit team culture where every voice is heard, and where shipping a high-quality product is always a team sport. We celebrate creative curiosity, encourage healthy work-life balance, and believe that the best tools come from teams that respect each other's time and talents.

We host regular game jams, technical book clubs, and cross-discipline learning sessions. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the players and communities we serve.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

  • Competitive base salary benchmarked against the local Panama market, with periodic reviews tied to performance and impact.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents.
  • Generous paid time off, including vacation days, holidays, and personal wellness days.
  • Annual learning and development stipend for courses, books, conferences, and certifications.
  • Modern hardware and software setup, including a high-performance workstation and access to all the tools you need to do your best work.
  • Relocation assistance for candidates moving to Panama from other regions.
  • Team retreats, social events, and a collaborative studio environment designed for creative people.

How to Apply

If you are excited about building tools that empower creators, and you want to start your career in one of the most dynamic corners of the tech industry, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your resume along with a brief cover letter describing a tool or utility you have built, and what problem it solved. Even if your example comes from a personal project, an academic assignment, or a small contribution to an open-source repository, we want to see how you think.

Join arenaflex in Panama and help us build the next generation of creative tools that make great games possible. Your future colleagues are waiting.
