Senior Data Engineer – Large‑Scale Data Platform & ETL Architecture for Remote Sortation Operations at arenaflex
About arenaflex
arenaflex is a global leader in e‑commerce and logistics, renowned for its relentless focus on customer obsession, innovation, and operational excellence. With a footprint that spans continents, arenaflex continuously redefines the boundaries of what is possible in the world of online retail, supply‑chain automation, and data‑driven decision making. Our mission is to build the most efficient, reliable, and scalable sortation network on the planet, leveraging cutting‑edge technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. As part of this mission, we are looking for visionary engineers who thrive in fast‑paced environments and want to shape the future of logistics.
Why This Role Matters
The Sort Community Network is the core “middle‑mile” system that connects fulfillment centers to the last‑mile delivery experience. The SPEeD (Sortation Items Designing and Information) team is tasked with creating flexible, future‑proof solutions that can handle emerging complexities such as containerization, heavy freight, global shipping, returns, and autonomous robotics. As a Data Engineer on this team, you will directly influence how millions of packages are routed, processed, and delivered each day, ensuring that arenaflex customers receive their orders quickly, accurately, and with a delightful experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store high‑volume operational data from sorting facilities, transportation hubs, and autonomous systems.
- Collaborate with product managers, senior architects, and cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
- Implement and optimize ETL processes using industry‑standard tools and frameworks, ensuring low latency and high reliability.
- Build and manage data warehouses and data lakes on AWS services such as Redshift, S3, and Athena, supporting analytics, reporting, and machine‑learning workloads.
- Develop monitoring, alerting, and automated recovery mechanisms to guarantee 99.9%+ uptime for critical data flows.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture workshops to uphold best practices and drive continuous improvement.
- Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge, and foster a culture of data‑driven experimentation.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies in big data, cloud computing, and AI, and evaluate their applicability to arenaflex’s logistics challenges.
Essential Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of hands‑on experience designing and building large‑scale data engineering solutions.
- Proven expertise in data modeling, warehousing, and constructing end‑to‑end ETL pipelines.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with a focus on data‑processing libraries (e.g., Apache Spark, Flink).
- Solid understanding of relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL stores (e.g., DynamoDB, Cassandra, MongoDB).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting while delivering high‑quality results on schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS data services such as Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR, Kinesis, Firehose, Lambda, and IAM roles/permissions.
- Familiarity with non‑relational data stores, including object storage, document stores, graph databases, and column‑family databases.
- Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and data science workflows, enabling seamless hand‑off between engineering and analytics teams.
- Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (CloudFormation, Terraform).
- Prior work in logistics, supply‑chain, or transportation domains, especially within high‑throughput sorting environments.
- Professional certifications related to AWS, data engineering, or big‑data technologies.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Analytical mindset: Ability to dissect complex problems, identify root causes, and propose data‑centric solutions.
- Collaboration: Strong communication skills for partnering with product owners, senior architects, and cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing environment where priorities shift rapidly and new challenges emerge daily.
- Ownership: Take end‑to‑end responsibility for data pipelines, from design through production monitoring and incident resolution.
- Continuous learning: Passion for staying current with industry trends, open‑source projects, and emerging cloud services.
