Ecologist I
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. The role involves conducting desktop reviews and supporting field data collection for wetland delineations and environmental assessments, primarily for utility clients in California.
Responsibilities
- Conduct desktop assessments and field surveys (e.g., habitat evaluations and presence/absence surveys) to evaluate potential project impacts to sensitive habitats, nesting birds, or special-status species
- Prepare technical reports such as species survey reports, mitigation and monitoring plans, and biological assessments
- Use your strong technical writing, attention to detail, time management and communications skills to draft project documents and support the development of technical analysis, comprehensive reports and documents under the direction of mid and senior level team members
- Use your knowledge of California ecology and special-status species to analyze presence or absence of resources and to determine how to avoid and minimize impacts to sensitive resources
- Conduct on-site construction compliance monitoring to ensure special-status species and habitat impact avoidance
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, botany or other natural resource related field
- One year of experience in the environmental field or advanced degree in environmental science or similar
- Knowledge of California ecology, wetlands, and habitats, special-status plants and/or wildlife and/or botanical knowledge
- Two years of experience in the environmental consulting industry
- Experience using online databases and mapping tools, such as Google Earth and CNDDB, or other datasets
- Experience conducting field surveys with a focus on the species of southern California and/or experience conducting stream and wetland delineations and strong knowledge of field safety protocols
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports/permit applications and working with federal land management agencies (BLM, USFS, NPS, etc.)
- Experience with linear infrastructure projects (e.g., utility projects, pipeline projects, etc.)
