Join arenaflex: Build the Backbone of Tomorrow's Cloud-Native Infrastructure

Are you a seasoned DevOps professional with a passion for Kubernetes, Linux systems, and large-scale cloud infrastructure? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments where your expertise directly impacts the speed of innovation for global development teams? If so, arenaflex invites you to bring your leadership, technical mastery, and visionary mindset to one of the most exciting part-time opportunities in the technology sector today.

At arenaflex, our Product Frameworks Engineering division is responsible for ensuring that clients around the world have the product frameworks they need to thrive in an increasingly connected, digital-first landscape. We work at the bleeding edge of technology, designing and delivering software system modifications as well as the next generation of new products. Our remit spans the entire product development lifecycle — from strategic planning and architectural design to hands-on development and rigorous testing of operating systems, compilers, drivers, utilities, databases, embedded management and control tools, and a wide range of web-related applications and services.

We are now seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer (K8s, Linux) to join our Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) TechOps Team. This is a remote, part-time role offering $26/hour, designed for an experienced engineer who wants to make a meaningful technical and cultural impact while enjoying the flexibility of part-time work.

What You Will Accomplish at arenaflex

The TechOps organization at arenaflex plays a fundamental role in delivering Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) capabilities for the ISG Development teams. Our mission is to accelerate the pace of development by ensuring that all mission-critical systems run reliably 24x7 in support of engineering productivity, while simultaneously driving division-wide change initiatives to modernize engineering operations across multiple lines of business.

As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority on Kubernetes, Linux, and cloud-native automation. Your leadership will help shape the future of internal cloud platforms, enabling hundreds of developers to ship software faster, more securely, and with greater confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Kubernetes Platform Stewardship: Own the sustainment and continuous improvement of our core Kubernetes infrastructure platforms — built on Red Hat OpenShift, Rancher, and VMware Tanzu — ensuring they meet the highest standards for performance, security, and reliability in a high-velocity environment.
  • Technical Leadership for "Kubernetes as a Service": Act as the lead technical authority for the internal "Kubernetes as a Service" offering, supporting development teams' needs for on-demand K8s clusters across on-premises cloud environments (OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, and Rancher). Provide expert architectural guidance across all platform variants.
  • GitOps Implementation: Lead the implementation of enterprise-wide GitOps principles to unify cluster provisioning, automation, and Day-2 lifecycle management. Leverage Kubernetes-native CI/CD tools such as ArgoCD and Jenkins to deliver declarative, auditable, and repeatable infrastructure changes.
  • Security & Compliance Enforcement: Ensure that essential security policies are implemented and enforced consistently across all K8s workloads. Drive robust patch management practices, contribute to the documentation of project requirements, statements of work, and service descriptions, and ensure backup and recovery procedures — including comprehensive disaster recovery plans — are in place for all critical assets.
  • Linux System Administration: Administer Linux environments across both physical and virtual servers, including installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of hardware, software, and applications. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex issues with Kubernetes objects such as Deployments, Pods, Namespaces, ReplicaSets, DaemonSets, and Schedulers.
  • Automation & Scripting: Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts and workflows to eliminate manual toil. Champion the use of configuration management and orchestration tools — particularly Ansible and AWX — to streamline operations at scale.
  • Observability & Networking: Apply deep understanding of infrastructure, networking, and application monitoring. Configure and maintain ingress controllers such as NGINX, HAProxy, and AWS ALB, and work hands-on with data protection tools including PPDM, Velero, and MinIO.

Essential Qualifications

  • Cloud-Native Expertise: Industry knowledge and proven experience with cloud-native architectures, service-based design patterns, and container-based solution development, delivery, and operations across diverse environments and use cases.
  • Kubernetes Mastery: Expert-level working knowledge of OpenShift, VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service, and Rancher. Strong foundation in VMware virtualization, networking/SAN, security, containerization technologies, and automation.
  • Global-Scale Platform Experience: Demonstrated success in designing, building, and deploying globally scaled platforms for software-defined data centers, with hands-on experience in container technologies (Docker, containerd, Postman), networking tools (NSX-T, Calico, OVN), and event-driven automation frameworks (Argo, ArgoEvents).
  • DevOps & CI/CD Proficiency: Deep experience with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) for container workloads using Jenkins or ArgoCD. Strong programming and scripting skills in YAML, Python, and Shell, complemented by expertise in configuration management tools such as Ansible and AWX.
  • Infrastructure Observability: Solid understanding of infrastructure, network, and application monitoring. Hands-on experience configuring ingress controllers (NGINX, HAProxy, ALB) and operating data protection solutions such as PPDM, Velero, and MinIO.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred (Positive) Requirements

  • Red Hat OpenShift certifications and Kubernetes certifications such as CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator), CKD (Certified Kubernetes Developer), or CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist) are highly regarded and considered a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, and Infoblox for IT service management, project tracking, and DNS/IP address management.
  • A track record of mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical communities of practice.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Beyond technical expertise, the ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a collaborative leadership style. You should be comfortable making architectural decisions, presenting to stakeholders, and translating complex technical concepts into actionable plans. A continuous learning mindset, an eye for automation opportunities, and a relentless focus on reliability, security, and developer experience will set you up for success at arenaflex.

Career Growth and Learning Benefits
