About the Opportunity

Are you a data engineering professional who thrives at the intersection of finance, analytics, and cloud technology? Join arenaflex as a Data Engineer supporting our Accounting Business Intelligence (BI) team, where you will help shape the financial reporting and analytics ecosystem for a global organization. This remote position offers the chance to work on impactful projects that transform how the accounting organization accesses, processes, and consumes financial data at scale.

At arenaflex, we believe data is the foundation of every strategic decision. The Accounting BI crew supports our worldwide accounting agency with process automation, the design of advanced reporting solutions, and the continuous improvement of how financial data is collected, analyzed, and delivered. Our team partners closely with engineering groups, finance leaders, and technical stakeholders across diverse business units to deliver world-class analytics capabilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced data engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, working with massive datasets, and building scalable solutions in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with finance stakeholders and cross-functional engineering teams to identify, scope, and design the right data architecture and technology stack to answer complex customer and business behavioral questions.
  • Partner with associate engineering teams to enhance data infrastructure, improve data availability, and expand access to customer insights through BI tools across the entire organization.
  • Design, build, and implement robust ETL processes using AWS services and similar modern data technologies.
  • Develop and deploy anomaly detection systems to ensure a proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential data quality issues using industry-standard frameworks.
  • Enable large-scale analytics using EMR (Elastic MapReduce) and other big data technologies to support high-volume financial data processing.
  • Establish and implement technology best practices, standards, and governance frameworks that guide engineering excellence across the organization.
  • Work on proof-of-concept initiatives to evaluate and drive adoption of emerging technologies, tools, and data engineering methodologies.
  • Provide technical mentorship and thought leadership on data modeling, warehousing strategies, and pipeline optimization.
  • Document data flows, architecture decisions, and engineering processes to support knowledge sharing and operational continuity.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize data pipeline performance, reliability, and scalability.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a professional environment.
  • Proven experience with data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and building production-grade ETL pipelines.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience writing complex queries for large datasets.
  • Experience with one or more query languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, or Scala.
  • Experience with one or more scripting languages such as Python, KornShell, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of cloud data platforms, preferably AWS services including S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, and EMR.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and EMR in production environments.
  • Deep understanding of big data processing frameworks (Hadoop, Apache Spark) and modern data warehouse technical architectures.
  • Experience with infrastructure components, ETL design patterns, and reporting/analytic tools and environments.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data lineage, and metadata management practices.
  • Experience working in finance, accounting, or business intelligence domains.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across global teams.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git.

Skills and Competencies for Success

To excel in this role, you will bring a unique blend of technical depth, analytical thinking, and business acumen. You should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting to evolving business needs, and learning new technologies quickly. Strong attention to detail, a passion for data quality, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders are essential. You should be self-motivated, results-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality solutions that drive measurable business impact.
