Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly motivated Remote Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver massive volumes of information across our enterprise ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, data architecture, and operational excellence, supporting both internal analytics platforms and external partner integrations. The successful candidate will work closely with data scientists, product managers, and senior technologists to ensure data is reliable, timely, and ready for downstream consumption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and operate scalable data pipelines that handle terabytes of structured and unstructured data daily.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate complex data requirements into technical specifications.
  • Implement data validation, cleansing, and enrichment processes to guarantee data quality and integrity.
  • Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and proactively optimize for cost‑efficiency.
  • Provide L3 support for production incidents, performing root‑cause analysis and delivering long‑term fixes.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in data engineering.
  • Partner with DevOps teams to embed CI/CD automation, infrastructure‑as‑code, and observability into the data platform.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies (e.g., streaming frameworks, cloud data services) and recommend strategic enhancements.

Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design end‑to‑end data workflows that move data from source systems (e.g., ERP, IoT devices, partner APIs) into warehousing solutions such as Snowflake or Redshift.
  • Write and maintain parsers, validators, transformers, and correlators using languages such as Python, Scala, and SQL.
  • Build reusable data models, libraries, and templates that accelerate development across the organization.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to provision clean, feature‑rich datasets for machine‑learning pipelines.
  • Document architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and operational runbooks for knowledge sharing.
  • Engage with external partners and customers to ensure seamless data exchange and compliance with security standards.
  • Drive the adoption of data‑driven product experiences that deliver measurable business value.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience building and maintaining large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Scala, with a strong grasp of data manipulation libraries such as Pandas, PySpark, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL stores (Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience with distributed data processing platforms such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
  • Familiarity with streaming technologies like Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD concepts and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and infrastructure‑as‑code frameworks (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or related disciplines.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their native data services (e.g., AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory).
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and familiarity with tools such as TensorFlow, Scikit‑Learn, or MLflow.
  • Prior work in the logistics, transportation, or supply‑chain industry, understanding of domain‑specific data challenges.
  • Contributions to open‑source data projects or a public GitHub portfolio showcasing relevant work.
  • Experience implementing data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

Skills & Competencies
