This role blends deep technical expertise with business acumen, ensuring that advanced analytics, machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and computer vision solutions translate into tangible business value.

Role Overview

As a Remote Lead Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will own end‑to‑end data science projects, mentor junior analysts, and champion best practices for model development, deployment, and governance. You will work closely with product managers, engineering leaders, and cross‑functional stakeholders to identify opportunities where data science can provide a competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Analytics (30%): Design, develop, and operationalize predictive and prescriptive models on large, complex datasets to generate actionable business insights.
  • Project & Team Leadership (25%): Lead multi‑disciplinary project teams, prioritize work streams, and ensure delivery of high‑quality, reproducible solutions on schedule.
  • Business Collaboration (20%): Partner with internal clients to translate business problems into data science solutions, communicate findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences, and influence decision‑making.
  • Research & Innovation (25%): Stay abreast of emerging trends in AI/ML, publish research findings, and contribute reusable code libraries, documentation, and best‑practice guidelines.
  • Talent Development: Mentor junior data scientists, conduct training sessions, and participate in recruitment and hiring processes to grow a world‑class analytics team.
  • Cross‑Functional Integration: Work with IT, engineering, and product teams to ensure seamless integration of models into production pipelines and maintain model governance standards.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in data science, with a proven track record of delivering production‑grade machine learning solutions.
  • Deep expertise in at least one core data science domain: machine learning, computer vision, NLP, or recommendation systems.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, and familiarity with libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit‑learn, spaCy, and OpenCV.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for model deployment.
  • Strong statistical foundation and ability to apply advanced analytical techniques to solve business problems.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to articulate complex technical concepts to senior leadership and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time (remote role).

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative discipline.
  • Experience leading large‑scale data science teams or projects in a fast‑paced retail or e‑commerce environment.
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts, ETL pipelines, and big‑data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with A/B testing, experiment design, and causal inference methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish research papers, present at conferences, or contribute to open‑source projects.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with agile methodologies.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to break down complex problems, identify root causes, and propose data‑driven solutions.
  • Leadership & Influence: Inspire and guide cross‑functional teams, champion data‑centric culture, and act as a trusted advisor.
  • Collaboration: Build strong relationships with product, engineering, and business partners to align on goals and deliver impact.
  • Innovation Mindset: Continuously explore new algorithms, tools, and frameworks to keep arenaflex at the forefront of AI.
