About arenaflex

arenaflex is a fast‑growing technology‑driven organization that sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cloud services, and enterprise finance. With a global footprint and a reputation for pioneering innovative solutions, arenaflex empowers businesses to unlock the full potential of data‑centric operations. Our mission is to build a future where intelligent automation and strategic financial stewardship drive sustainable growth for our clients and partners. As we expand our footprint in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are looking for visionary finance professionals who thrive in dynamic, high‑impact environments.

Role Overview

The Senior Assistant Controller will serve as a cornerstone of arenaflex’s finance organization, overseeing core general‑ledger (GL) accounting, month‑end close, reporting, and compliance functions. Reporting directly to the Controller and working closely with the VP of Finance, this role blends deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, ensuring that financial processes are both accurate and scalable. The position offers a hybrid work model—three days on‑site in San Francisco and two days remote—providing flexibility while fostering strong collaboration across the finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the core GL accounting team, managing asset accounting, OPEX, and global bookkeeping functions.
  • Own the end‑to‑end month‑end close process, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial statements.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in line with US GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with cross‑functional leaders to support product development and new‑business initiatives, providing financial insights and risk assessments.
  • Identify opportunities for automation of manual processes; lead system implementation projects (e.g., NetSuite, Zuora) to streamline accounting workflows.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and third‑party accounting service providers, ensuring smooth audit cycles and compliance deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the broader finance organization to analyze financial performance, develop forecasts, and present actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Mentor and develop junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high‑performance.
  • Leverage data analytics tools (SQL, Power BI, Tableau) to generate insights that drive operational efficiencies and strategic decision‑making.
  • Act as a key liaison between finance, legal, and operational teams to resolve complex accounting issues and support business growth initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA or CA certification with a strong grasp of US GAAP and SEC reporting standards.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in senior accounting roles within public companies, late‑stage startups, or public accounting firms.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi‑entity GL accounting, month‑end close, and financial reporting processes.
  • Proficiency with modern ERP systems, preferably NetSuite and Zuora, and a track record of leading ERP implementation or optimization projects.
  • Advanced analytical skills, including hands‑on experience with SQL and data visualization tools.
  • Exceptional communication abilities—both written and verbal—with a talent for translating complex financial concepts to non‑financial audiences.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of juggling multiple high‑priority initiatives simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Analytics.
  • Experience in a technology or AI‑focused organization, understanding the unique financial dynamics of fast‑growth tech firms.
  • Knowledge of automation tools such as Alteryx, UiPath, or similar RPA platforms.
  • Familiarity with SaaS revenue recognition models and subscription billing complexities.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building high‑performing finance teams and driving cultural change.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus, reflecting arenaflex’s global client base.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of accounting standards, ERP systems, and data analytics.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture, align financial operations with corporate strategy, and influence senior leadership.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working cross‑functionally with product, engineering, legal, and operations teams.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Experience coaching junior staff and fostering an inclusive, high‑energy team environment.
  • Problem‑Solving: Comfortable tackling ambiguous, complex challenges and delivering pragmatic solutions.
  • Communication: Clear, concise, and persuasive storytelling with stakeholders at all levels.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, your career trajectory is limited only by your ambition. As a Senior Assistant Controller, you will:

  • Gain exposure to senior executive decision‑making and strategic planning sessions.
  • Lead high‑visibility automation initiatives that shape the future of finance within a cutting‑edge tech company.
  • Access a robust learning ecosystem, including tuition reimbursement, industry certifications, and internal workshops on AI, data science, and advanced finance.
  • Potentially progress to Controller, Finance Director, or VP of Finance roles as the organization scales.
