The Opportunity: Staff Data Engineer at arenaflex
arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled Staff Data Engineer to join our dynamic Information Architecture team. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact by scaling our data infrastructure, automation, and tools to meet growing business needs. As a Staff Data Engineer, you'll serve as a technical force to be reckoned with, driving innovation and excellence in everything we do.
This hybrid/remote position requires you to be located near one of our engineering hubs in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Seattle, offering the flexibility to work from our state-of-the-art offices or remotely while maintaining strong collaboration with your team.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deeply understand data requirements and business objectives
- Partner with engineering, product teams, and external vendors to gather, process, and integrate required data from diverse sources
- Design, develop, and implement large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data models and pipelines for our Data Lake and Data Warehouse environments
- Build reusable frameworks and components that enhance the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of our ETL processes
- Manage and optimize a portfolio of data products that deliver high-quality, reliable, and timely information for decision-making
- Mentor and coach junior engineers and team members to improve their designs, solutions, and technical approaches
- Stay current with emerging technologies, best practices, and industry trends in data engineering and analytics
- Drive innovation in data architecture, implementing cutting-edge solutions that give arenaflex a competitive edge
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or a related technical role
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java, with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code
- 3+ years of experience with ETL implementation and workflow management tools like Airflow, Flink, Oozie, and Azkaban using AWS/GCP
- Expert knowledge of database fundamentals, SQL, and distributed computing principles
- 3+ years of experience with distributed data ecosystems (Spark, Hive, Druid, Presto) and streaming technologies like Kafka/Flink
- Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses and databases including Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and other DBMS platforms
- Understanding of reporting and visualization tools such as Tableau, Superset, and Looker
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, self-motivated, and highly organized with strong time management skills
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to analyze, interpret, and derive insights from complex data and market information
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field
- Experience working in high-growth technology companies with complex data challenges
- Familiarity with machine learning integration in data pipelines
- Experience with data governance and data quality frameworks
- Background in industries requiring high-volume data processing such as e-commerce, logistics, or SaaS
- Contributions to open-source data engineering projects
- Experience with A/B testing frameworks and statistical analysis
