Backend Engineer - Platform Experience (IAM, Collaboration & Payments)

About the Role

As a Backend Engineer focusing on distributed systems at Mux, you will build and manage scalable and highly available applications and services that can reliably support the feature development and growing traffic of our products. The Platform Experience: IAM, Collaboration and Payments team is focused on providing a consistent, effective platform experience for developers while maximizing cross-product efficiency for both customers and internal teams. You will work on ensuring our platform is resilient, and will also be writing new application code to support product features. We’re looking for engineers that love both systems and application-level challenges across various teams, who will take on strong ownership of critical product infrastructure and enjoy being part of an inclusive and creative Engineering team.

What You'll Do

• Work with your team to collaborate and execute on the product goals and technical roadmap.
• Working on Identity and Account Management product features.
• Unify common features across backends that serve multiple products (e.g. message queue systems to serve our product webhooks).
• Working with CDNs, cross-region/cross-cloud highly available databases, and solving complex architecture problems.
• Build out message queue systems that will be used by multiple teams (webhook delivery, event delivery etc).
• Doing a lot of work around authentication, authorization, and maturing our product security.
• Scaling the underlying API platform to address growing traffic, reliability needs, and security concerns.
• Building and scaling a payments platform that supports all Mux products.
• Technologies you may touch include:
• Code: Golang, Elixir, gRPC, Edge Compute
• Cloud: Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Fastly, Cloudflare
• Data: Clickhouse, CockroachDB, Postgres, Kafka
• Orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker, Envoy, Tilt
• Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, Elasticsearch

Who You Are

• We are hiring mid to staff-level engineers.
• You’re a strong engineer comfortable working across multiple platforms and environments.
• Solid engineering fundamentals (CS degree a plus).
• Track record of working on hard problems including job scheduling, concurrency, and scaling.
• Experience with deploying complex applications on cloud platforms using a container orchestration platform, such as Kubernetes.
• Experience with administering high availability data technologies, such as Kafka.
• Fluency in a systems-level programming language (Golang preferred).
• Video experience is a plus but not required.
