Controller - Remote

Our client is a rapidly growing, private equity-backed cybersecurity software company headquartered in the Washington, DC area. With approximately $70 million in revenue and a strong market position, the organization is entering a critical phase of operational and financial growth and is seeking an experienced Controller to provide immediate leadership across the accounting and finance function. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments and has experience supporting scaling software or SaaS organizations. Role: Controller Location: Washington, DC Area (Remote) Industry: Cybersecurity Software / SaaS Compensation: Competitive Market Rate Engagement Type: Contract-to-Hire Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Position Summary The Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and lead all core financial reporting activities for the organization. This individual will be responsible for managing the monthly close process, maintaining the general ledger, ensuring accurate financial statement preparation, supporting technical accounting matters, and strengthening internal controls and financial processes. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting operations, experience within private equity-backed organizations, and a deep understanding of software/SaaS accounting environments, including revenue recognition. This role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact while partnering closely with executive leadership and helping scale the finance organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all accounting operations, including:
• General ledger management
• Monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Financial statement preparation
• Accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight
• Revenue recognition activities
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
• Research and address technical accounting matters and support implementation of accounting policies and procedures
• Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting processes, and financial systems infrastructure
• Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and process improvements across the accounting function
• Partner closely with the CFO on ad hoc financial analysis, reporting requests, and strategic initiatives
• Support external audits, tax compliance activities, and interactions with outside advisors
• Assist with private equity reporting requirements and investor-related deliverables as needed
• Oversee and optimize the use of Sage Intacct and related financial systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Prior experience working within a private equity-backed organization strongly preferred
• Software, technology, or SaaS industry experience required
• Strong understanding of revenue recognition and software accounting principles
• CPA designation strongly preferred
• Public accounting background preferred
• Experience managing accounting operations in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
• Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices
• Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a lean environment
