We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual to join our team as an Accounting Compliance & Tax Specialist. This position focuses on auditing, system optimization, and high-level verification of accounts. You will be responsible for ensuring our accounts are set up correctly, auditing monthly reconciliations, and verifying multi-state tax and payroll compliance. About International Press of Boston, Inc. International Press of Boston, Inc. is a scholarly publishing company founded in 1992, and based in Somerville, Massachusetts (near to Harvard University). We currently publish 26 peer-reviewed journals and two annual books dealing with various fields of current research in pure and applied mathematics. We also publish high-level mathematics and mathematical physics book titles, including monographs, textbooks, and several long-running book series. International Press draws its editors and authors from a worldwide network of talent which includes many of the most notable and important mathematicians in their respective fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Systems Oversight & Optimization: Audit and optimize the QuickBooks Online setup to ensure professional standards and best practices.
  • Financial Auditing & Internal Controls:
  • Perform monthly reconciliations and cross-verify the Statement of Account (SOA) against Revenue and Sales data.
  • Ensure P&L accuracy through correct expense categorization and provide guidance on state tax disputes.
  • Payroll & Tax Compliance: Review all Gusto payroll inputs and multi-state tax filings (US) for accuracy before final processing.
  • Customer Support: Light email support such as processing payments and invoicing customers (as needed).

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Accounting Expertise: Significant experience in professional accounting (CPA or equivalent experience preferred).
  • Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Gusto.
  • Tax Knowledge: Advanced understanding of multi-state taxes (US) and business compliance.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to identify accounting discrepancies and perform deep-dive internal audits.
