Throughout your co-op, you’ll gain hands-on experience working in an Agile environment alongside experienced engineers who care deeply about mentorship, collaboration, and building maintainable code. You’ll sharpen your skills across modern web technologies, testing, debugging, and development workflows while taking ownership of impactful projects and features. What you'll be doing This is what you need to know: Software Developer Co-op, you’ll be responsible for: Fixing bugs and implementing new features. Reviewing code written by other engineers on the team. Testing changes to our software to ensure a high level of quality. Reproducing problems reported by our customers. Providing technical assistance to our customer success team. Halfway through your co-op: You have made several code changes, and they have been merged into the product. You know our product well and can answer common technical questions about it. You can test most changes and be confident you’ve identified any problems. Your work-term project is well underway. At the end of your co-op: You are a fully contributing member of the development team. You know our product inside and out and are comfortable with the codebase. Your work-term project is complete. As a full-stack Software Developer Co-op with Shift, there are extra superpowers we’re on the lookout for: Front-end Focus: Experience as a front-end or full-stack developer. Developing knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript. Exposure to JS frameworks such as React, Angular and Vue.js. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web technology. Experience with testing frameworks and writing tests. Back-end Focus: Experience as a back-end or full-stack developer. Experience with Cloud infrastructure and/or CI/CD pipelines. Both: Passion for writing quality code that is maintainable. A positive attitude and excellent communication skills. Experience working on an Agile development team. Comfortable with version control systems and performing code review. Samples of demonstrating clean, well-commented, well-executed code. Bonus: Cloudflare and AWS experience.
