Apple News Local Editor (Contract)
Job summary Apple News provides millions of users with trusted news from leading news organizations around the globe. Editors at Apple News highlight the best and most engaging content on our platform for our large national audience. In this role, you will be responsible for covering local news across the country. You will curate content, write headlines and push notifications, and communicate directly with our publisher partners. This is a parental leave fill-in contractor position at $60 an hour. The preferred location is the Bay Area, but we will consider some other West Coast-based locations. The contract would start mid-July. Key qualifications
- Experience covering local news
- Good instincts in breaking-news situations
- Strong editorial judgment
- Excellent headline- and push notification-writing skills
- Strong communication skills
Description
- Curate news across multiple local markets
- Write sharp copy with the Apple News audience in mind and work with our copy editors to ensure your work meets all aspects of our house style
- Communicate with local publishers across the country
- Provide extensive editorial handoff communication and documentation for colleagues in different time zones
- Work with the full editorial team to ensure local featuring across the app and off-platform, with an emphasis on quality, accuracy, and engagement
- Surface bugs, issues with publisher quality, and other performance issues
- This position may require an occasional evening schedule
