JOB TITLE Assistant Director of Equal Opportunity & Outreach/Investigator LOCATION Worcester DEPARTMENT NAME Equal Opportunity & Outreach DIVISION NAME Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY Reporting to the Senior Director of Equal Opportunity & Outreach, the Assistant Director/Investigator conducts investigations, handles resolutions, and plays a lead role in meeting the University's training and education obligations under Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, and other federal or state civil rights laws. With case-related guidance, the Investigator is responsible for their caseload, partnering with school designees throughout the investigative process, conducting legally sufficient investigations, meeting established timelines, and treating all constituents engaged in the complaint process with sensitivity and neutrality. In addition, the Assistant Director conducts annual trainings with key stakeholders around civil rights. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities: Investigates complaints of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, gender-related violence including stalking and intimate partner violence, and protected class discrimination and harassment involving faculty, staff, undergraduate, and graduate students. Acts as a neutral party in the investigation and provides a detailed, unbiased report regarding the findings of the investigation. Produces written reports, collects data, and keeps careful documentation of Civil Rights complaints. Develops and conducts trainings, with an emphasis on a train-the-trainer approach whenever appropriate. Actively fosters and maintains a climate that is supportive and respectful to students, faculty, staff, and the public. Partners with other offices, schools, and units to develop an effective and sustainable education program. Continuously identifies and works with assigned managers and other relevant stakeholders to integrate best practices in Civil Rights investigation and informal complaint resolution into the campus knowledge base and practice. Maintains knowledge of current, changed, and pending state and federal laws, regulations, and trends in the areas of investigations, Office of Civil Rights, equal employment opportunity, discrimination, harassment, and other related topics. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree highly preferred Additional advanced degree in psychology, criminal justice, student affairs, or a related field is desirable 3–5 years of experience conducting investigations on issues of discrimination, harassment, or sexual violence in higher education, human resources, or other civil rights-based positions; preference given to candidates with Title IX investigation experience Salary Grade 9: $82,600 – $102,000 per year (depending on experience) Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
