Insurance Coverage Associate — Chicago (Confidential / Unposted Search)

A nationally recognized insurer‑side insurance coverage practice is seeking an Associate (4–6 years) to join its Chicago team. This confidential opportunity is suited to attorneys who thrive on complex coverage analysis and advising sophisticated carrier clients on high‑stakes matters.

Candidate Profile

• 4–6 years of coverage‑specific experience, ideally on complex, high‑end matters.
• Strong writing and analytical toolkit for coverage opinions and client advisory; litigation experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Academic excellence (Top 25% typical); distinction in legal writing, moot court, law review, or trial team is a plus.
• Illinois Bar admission required.

Work You’ll Do

• Complex coverage across general liability, mass tort (including opioid‑related matters), environmental/toxic tort, and insurance/reinsurance disputes.
• Primary emphasis on coverage analysis and client counseling at a high level; litigation exposure is valuable but not the central focus.
• Matters are significant in scope, with opportunities to partner closely with clients and senior attorneys on strategy from early assessment through resolution.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary (guidance):
• 4th year: $170,000–$175,000
• 5th year: $180,000–$185,000
• 6th year: $185,000–$190,000
• Discretionary bonus typically $10,000–$20,000 (pro‑rated for laterals); lock‑step structure with performance flexibility.
• Benefits: Robust healthcare, standard 401(k), CLE support, cell phone stipend, and parental leave.

How the Team Works

• Hybrid model: 3 in‑office days per week (core collaboration days).
• Performance framework: 1,950 billable hours (with 50 creditable hours for pro bono, publications, etc.); strong performers typically exceed 2,000+.
• Professional development: Support for CLEs and meaningful credit for activities that elevate your craft.
